River Walks, BBC One (South)—
Monday 10 December, BBC One (South) 7.30pm & on iPlayer: https://bbc.in/2KXmeQg.
Olly & his new puppy Busby take an autumn walk along Hampshire’s beautiful chalk stream river, the Itchen. The pair enjoy some of the many diversions and adventures the Itchen offers including wild swimming, fly fishing and otter spotting. They’re joined by the Roamability ramblers on their mobility scooters for an accessible stretch of the riverbank and visit the oldest working watermill in the country. They also learn about watercress farming and catch a steam train on the Watercress Line to a local brewery to try some of Hampshire’s unique watercress ale.
Olly said: “The Itchen is 28 miles of pure splendour rising in mid-Hampshire and ending in Southampton. I plotted a 12-mile route that started half-way up the River at Shawford and ended in Alresford – a walk full of history, activities and a few surprises along the way. Join me and Busby on BBC One on Monday 10 December for some winter walk inspiration.”
Diane, one of the Hampshire Roamability ramblers, told Ollie: “We’ve all got off-road scooters and the idea is to enjoy the countryside and chill out. We make lovely friends, and it’s so much safer going out in a group because if one of us has battery failure we tow each other! It’s lovely being out and being free, and doing something that able-bodied people can do as well.”
