Wine of the Week
Eva’s Vineyard Chenin Blanc/Pinot Grigio/Királyleányka 2010 (Waitrose, £3.79) If you’re a fan of light, zippy white wine with a floral twist, this is outstanding value for money.
Top picks
Château David Bordeaux Supérieur 2010 (Sainsbury’s, £6.49) Tightly packed wine with a sense of austerity – the kind of tipple I imagine would be slurped heartily at Downton Abbey.
Cairanne 2010, Vidal-Fleury (Majestic, £10.99) Pour this into a decanter or jug to unleash its mulberry-like power, with spicy depth, intensity and dark fruit.
Chianti Classico Torre Gena DOCG 2007 (M&S, £9.99) Lovely wine to accompany a Sunday roast, a hearty bowl of meaty pasta or boldly flavoured hard cheeses.
Tesco Finest Vintage Port 1994 (Tesco, £17.99) Fantastic with a slice or two of Stilton or, with its sweet, luxuriant, spicy flavours, as a glass after dinner.
